Kitaro: Hello. This is Kitaro, Music Composer for NHK's new project, Four Great Civilizations.

NHK: Welcome back to NHK. It's been a while since we've had the opportunity to interview you in this type of setting.
Herzlich Willkommen hier bei NHK. Es ist eine Weile her seit wir die Gelegenheit hatten, Sie an diesem Schauplatz zu interviewen.

Kitaro: I've been composing music for NHK since the time of the hit, "Silkroad," which was released some twenty years ago. This new project, was especially challenging. It took all of my musical experience and expertise to complete.
Ich habe für NHK Musik seit der Zeit von "Silkroad" geschrieben, die vor ungefähr zwanzig Jahren veröffentlicht wurde. Dieses neue Projekt, stellte eine besondere Herausforderung. Es bedurfte meiner gesamten musikalischen Erfahrung und Kenntnissen, um es abzuschließen.

NHK: Your composing and touring schedule most of keeps you in the United States. Will this project alter your musical activities in Japan?
Ihre Kompositionen und Tourneen finden meist in den Vereinigten Staaten statt. Wird dieses Projekt Ihre musikalischen Aktivitäten in Japan verändern?

Kitaro: Yes, I believe so. From this point forward, as a musician, I want to show my gratitude to my native country of Japan.

NHK: You work on Silkroad was outstanding. What are your intentions for this new project, "Four Civilizations?"
Ihre Arbeit an "Silkroad" war hervorragend. Welche Plänehaben Sie für dieses neue Projekt der "Vier Zivilisationen"?

Kitaro: Well... This time I married instrumentals and vocals. Last December, I experienced a concert with the fascinating tenor, Slava. This performance inspired me to produce a musical project with Slava and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. And I'm certainly satisfied with what has emerged from this concept.
Nun ... Diesmal benutzte ich Instrumente und Stimmen. Im letzten Dezember erlebte ich ein Konzert mit dem faszinierenden Tenor Slava. Diese Aufführung inspirierte mich ein musikalisches Projekt mit Slava und dem Londoner Philharmonic-Orchestra zu produzieren. Und ich werde sicherlich mit dem zufrieden sein, was aus dem Konzept entstanden ist.

NHK: Why did you pick Slava?
Warum wählten Sie Slava aus?

Kitaro: There are many great vocalists in this world, like John Anderson from Yes. Great vocalists inspire me. When I met Slava in London last December, I felt that he and I were on the same wavelength. So I immediately thought, "Let's make it happen."
Es gibt viele bedeutende Sänger auf der Welt, wie John Anderson von Yes. Bedeutende Sänger inspirieren mich. Als ich Slava in London im letzten Dezember traf, glaubte ich, daß er und ich auf der gleichen Wellenlänge waren. So dachte ich sofort, "Laß es geschehen."

NHK: As mentioned in the brochure, Slava's "Ave Maria" is very popular in Japan at the moment. How were you able to connect this work with the Four Civilizations project?
Wie im Prospekt erwähnt, ist Slavas "Ave Maria" zur Zeit sehr populär in Japan. Wie waren Sie fähig diese Arbeit mit den "Vier Zivilisationen" Projekt zu verbinden?

Kitaro: On Silkroad, I intended to produce the music of Time and Space. Both subject are invisible. I'd like to support fulfilling the ages with music which those treasure and cultures hidden in the Four Civilizations until this century.
Bei "Silkroad" hatte ich vor, Musik von Zeit und Raum zu erzeugen. Beide unterwerfen sind unsichtbar. Ich möchte die Epochen mit Musik unterstützen, die jene in den "Vier Zivilisationen" Kulturen erfüllend schätzten und bis dieses Jahrhundert bewahrten.

NHK: Did you compose the music at your studio in Colorado?
Komponierten Sie die Musik an Ihrem Studio in Colorado?

Kitaro: Yes. It's my favorite place to compose, work and record.
Ja. Es ist mein bevorzugter Ort, zu bilden, zu arbeiten und aufzuzeichnen.

NHK: Composing music for the Four Civilizations in Colorado...

Kitaro: I appreciate the opportunity to work on this project. I truly enjoyed it. It's almost completed now. Everyday is like a journey to the ancient age in my mind. I often think to myself, "Let's go to China today and Egypt tomorrow!"
Ich schätze die Gelegenheit, an diesem Projekt zu arbeiten. Ich genoß es wahrlich. Es wird jetzt fast fertiggestellt. Täglich ist eine Reise zu dem uralten Epochen in meinem Geist gefallen. Ich denke oft für mich "Lass heute nach China und morgen nach Ägypten gehen"!

NHK: Fans are anxiously awaiting your new music. Do you have any personal favorites or recommendations with regard to the finest passages in this project?
Fans erwarten ungeduldig Ihre neue Musik. Haben Sie persönliche Favoriten oder Empfehlungen hinsichtlich der feinsten Passagen in diesem Projekt?

Kitaro: All of them are magnificent. I want to produce music which is strong and interesting to listen to - especially alongside ancient treasures.
Alle von ihnen sind großartig. Ich möchte Musik erzeugen, die stark ist und zum zuhören reizt, - besonders neben uralten Schätzen.
