Gensen-Kan Inn1994 Japan 98 min. Genre: Documentary Kitaro is one of the actors Short Synopsis This Japanese bio-movie examines the life and times of innovative comic-book artist Yoshiharu Tsuge whose work in the 1960's began the trend for creating adult oriented comics. The film is comprised of four stories. Each story looks at the wide range of styles used by the artist. The vignettes, however, are not linked. The first segment offers a brief look at family life in the artist's home. The second presents a short story of a young woman who releases "red flowers" into a stream bed as she suffers menstrual cramps. The main story follows Tsuge visiting an unearthly village. There he discovers a traveler that looks like him. The traveler seduced the deaf-dumb mistress of the local inn many years before. The last vignette is an examination of Tsuges' early years as a struggling, impoverished artist. — Sandra Brennan Cast |
