KITARO
AS ALWAYS, KITARO IS...
"THINKING OF YOU"

As one of the founding fathers of both genres, his music continually tops the world music and new age charts. He returns, once again, with a signature work certain to garner the accolades and cheers of die-hard fans and newcomers alike.
With over a dozen Grammy nominations and various awards to his credit, Kitaro's legacy has lang since been etched in vinyl, as well as the minds and hearts of his followers.
Kitaro first came to public attention in 1980 when his soundtrack for the NHK documentary, Silk Road captivated an international audience. David Geffen signed the hat artist to his Geffen Records in 1986 and soon thereafter Kitaro moved his base of operations to his current home and studio high atop the mountains of Colorado. Tunes come to him while be is watching the sun set beyond the Lake in front of his house. When he completes a piece of music, he offen plays a recording of it outdoors. Kitaro notes, 'A good piece of music Should be in harmony with nature. A faulty piece clashes with the natural landscape."
In 1994, he won a Golden Globe for his work an Oliver Stone's film, Heaven and Earth. His 1998 release, Gaia Onbashira, inspired by the extraordinary festival in Nagano, Japan wits nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Age Performance category. And while his writing style has not changed since the days of Silk Road, his new DOMO RECORDS release, Thinking of You marks a change in perspective. Rather than grandeur, this new Kitaro music expresses a more delicate andgentle nature. And instead of seeking his musical subjects in the great outdoors or through history, for the first time, Kitaro has turned to fellow human beings for the first time.
Kitaro notes, "YOU' in the title of this project signifies people close to me, people who have passed away or those who have gone far away f om me. On this release, I tried to speak to each one of them in musical expression. " The concept came to Kitaro earlier this year, when a water pipe at his house burst, ruining one of his most prized possessions, his piano. "I loved thatpiano so much. To me, it was human. As 1 thought about the instrument, I began thinking deeply and fondly of my friends and family. " Kitaro added 'I consciously reduced the complexity of the music to return to a more simple sound I feel I've returned to the time when I first started making music, " he says.
However, this "new" style has not affected the consistent, positive message which always is intertwined within Kitaro's music. "I want to comfort people andgive them courage through my music. "
